Henry Ralph Koopman was born in 1860 in Gorinchem, the Netherlands, and emigrated to the US at 6 mos. of age with his father, Henry Ralph Koopman I, a preacher. Koopman II, while living in Patterson, NJ,  learned the photography trade at the Simpson photo studio in NYC. He then returned to Roseland, IL in 1884 and set up the Leader Studio at 11106 S. S. K. KRAUSS

Krauss, S. K., photographer, born 1839 near Allentown, PA, and son of Jacob Krauss, was a prominent citizen of Lima. In Wooster, OH, he was for a  short time connected with the Teeple Brothers, photographers, after which he embarked in the business for himself.  In association with William Plummer he opened a photograph gallery in Wooster, and the business was conducted one year under the firm name of Krauss & Plummer, when Mr. Krauss sold his interest and went to South Toledo. There he conducted a studio for seven months.  In November 1866, he bought a gallery at Lima, which he operated alone for about 16 years and then admitted R. H. Ebersole to partnership.  This firm continued in business until 1902. He married first in 1867 to Catherine E. Workman, of Wooster, OH. She died in 1885 and her child died in infancy.  In 1889 he married second to Bertha Haines.

Outside source: Kusel, Edward Abraham, Daguerrean, Oroville, Marysville, and Sacramento, Calif.  Kusel was born in Germany and emigrated to the United States in 1849. On his way to the gold fields, he was delayed in New York a year for lack of funds. Arriving in California, he began manufacturing hoses. In 1856 he located in Oroville, with a stationary/book store, and a photography studio. By 1859 he had moved to Marysville and in 1861 relocated to Sacramento. His later years were spent in Oroville and Chico.
